Dark X-Men…

In the late 80’s a lot of comics took a dark turn, inspired by Alan Moore and Frank Miller who had been doing this for a while…the X-Men had always dipped in and out went full on with the mutant massacre….

They even started bitching with each other….

This Dazzler in-house ad….

…was fantastic. The 80’s wasn’t all yuppies, Ferraris and shoulder pads which are being nostalgically represented these days. There was high crime, mass unemployment, AIDS and a cold war threat. Whilst some comics touched on these subjects directly and indirectly…the x-men (at times) and this advert struck a chord for me and captured the fear that was bubbling under the surface at the time.

Never read it mind….never judge a comic book by its advert?

Captain Britain rules U.K

In my opinion no one else can draw the captain but Alan Davis. Every other representation can’t equal or get close to him. The fluid movement, strength and emotion that Davis is able to express, is unfortunately unrivaled. I’ve attempted it several times and always been disappointed.

So here’s a digital remaster I’ve cooked up instead.
